The Air Jordan 5 Metallic are an OG colorway from 1990. The shoe’s design was based off of a fighter jet, hence the teeth on the midsole.
Metallic V’s are pretty easy to come by – there are multiple retros in varying conditions so it basically comes down to how new or old of a version you want, and what condition it’s in.
I always liked the Air Jordan 5 Metallic as a colorway and I’ve owned a couple different retros. Sometimes we get a retro card or a fancy box with the retros and sometimes we don’t. We do however always get the trademark lacelock. And rightfully so, as the AJ5 was the first model to introduce a lacelock on a signature basketball sneaker.
Materials
Different versions have slightly different materials. Certain retros stick with the OG nubuck upper while others have more of a soft suede upper. The outsole differs as well, as some versions have a blue tint to the clear parts of the sole while others do not.
Fit
Overall I feel like these fit true to size or even a little big. The comfort is decent for a Jordan retro, you have basic Nike Air cushioning which lightens the load of this otherwise fairly heavy model.
Where to Cop
At this moment, you can shop for Metallics on eBay
I’ve owned two retros of these:
2007 Air Jordan 5 Metallic
Colorway: Black / Metallic Silver – Fire Red
Style Code: 136027 004
Year of Release: 2007
MSRP: $135
2016 Air Jordan 5 Metallic
Colorway: Black / Fire Red – Metallic Silver – White
Style Code: 845035 003
Year of Release: 2016
MSRP: $220
This pair is updated with Nike Air on the back and insole instead of the Jumpman. Many collectors prefer this layout as it is truer to the original release. The suede here is a bit softer though, instead of the nubuck on the previous release.
